MEET THE MAKERS

Welcome! We’re Bernita and Usha, the Zimbabwean mother-daughter team behind Bernita Nana and Handmade Moments. Although we work in different mediums, we share a love for creativity, thoughtful details, and making pieces that bring beauty and joy into everyday life.

MEET BERNITA

I’m Bernita—also known as Bernzz19 on Instagram. Originally from Zimbabwe and now living in Atlanta, Georgia, I’m a commercial interior designer, beauty portrait photographer, and mandala artist. Creativity has always been an important part of my life.

My mandala journey began as a peaceful creative escape and gradually developed into a passion for designing intricate, hand-painted artwork. Each mandala is created one brushstroke at a time, combining symmetry, color, ornamental details, and inspiration drawn from nature, architecture, and the story behind each piece.

MEET USHA

My mother, Usha—also known as @_Handmademoments on Instagram—is the talented maker behind the fabric creations at Handmade Moments. Also originally from Zimbabwe, her love of sewing began many years ago on my grandparents’ farm, where she learned to sew using a manual Singer sewing machine operated by a foot pedal.

The skills she learned from her mother and aunts became part of a creative tradition that she has carried with her throughout her life. Over the years, she has enjoyed exploring many forms of handcraft, including sewing, knitting, and crocheting.

Today, my mom creates practical fabric accessories such as tissue and lip balm holders, bookmarks, wet-wipe covers, pen holders, and other thoughtfully handmade pieces. Every item is sewn with care, patience, and close attention to detail.

When she isn’t sewing or working with yarn, Usha also enjoys gardening—another creative outlet that reflects her love of nurturing beautiful things and watching them grow.

OUR CREATIVE STORY

Together, our work brings two creative worlds into one space: Bernita’s original hand-painted mandalas and Usha’s thoughtfully sewn accessories. Our creations are connected by the artistic traditions passed through our family and by our shared belief that handmade pieces can make everyday moments feel more personal and meaningful.

Every purchase supports our mother-daughter creative journey and allows us to continue sharing meaningful, handmade pieces with you.

Thank you for visiting, supporting our work, and becoming part of our story.
